The revolution sans resolution

On the first day of the Earth's new trip 'round the sun, many folks make promises to themselves about what they will do differently in the upcoming 365 days. Some hold true, lots don't. I've never been one for resolutions, as I own a miniature attention span and I know this. However, I do have a real promise for Trip and my upcoming year. There will be some pretty sweet changes inside of 2011 for the both of us. Don't worry Mom, no babies!

As young 20-somethings from decently sized towns in the Midwest, we have different ideas than most people our age, who are settling down to buy stick built houses and make babies. We don't get excited about cars, Ikea, baubles, or new clothes. We like good dirt, raising our own food, Dietz lanterns and wood stoves.

During 2010, Trip and I really settled into our differences from former classmates and friends. It's not been hard. This past year has allowed us to blossom into the people we really want to be! We are closer to self reliance and being real small scale farmers than we have ever been, and it's a freaking wonderful thing. We've got chickens laying eggs, garden food in the freezer, the know how to grow ginormous tomatoes, and there are probably still cellular bits and pieces of my very first rooster inside of my fatty tissue. He was delicious.

Of course, we are nowhere near the end of our promenade in regards to a true self reliant lifestyle, but we're piecing it together! This year's goals include tweaking and reusing the basic skills we've learned thus far and adding many more to our little cone of know how. ;) Other than that, who knows what 2011 has in store?

Cheers!
